None of my Garmin speed or cadence sensors are connecting to my 840 Solar

Brand new 840 Solar, unable to connect to any of my 6 bikes — Speed and/or Cadence sensors.  They all had been working with my ol' 830 with no problem, the few bikes I had been riding this time of year… Had no problems connecting, and displaying data on 830 head unit — only days before the 840s arrival.  I connected the new head unit, and since day 1, none of the sensors are findable.

Has anyone else had this issue, that was resolvable — and if so, what did you do to fix it ?

Thanks,

  • How do You search them? with "search all" on the top of the screen or with the search "speed and cad"?

  • I've tried both methods you mentioned…

  • Has the unit software been upgraded from the delivered software build to 9.09 or higher?

  •  i see the speed sensor is mandatory (but why????)  for the x40 series also, the Garmin coders couldnt eliminate that "chainsaw" issue in speed chart on Strava  (and the best, the FR965 had issue also during the ride, but just at a different place) , didnt they test the recorded FIT files there, it is painfully ugly...

Edge 840 speed chart during the ride (without speed sensor)

  • Had the same problem at first. During the set-up via mobile phone I choose the option to auto-transfer all my sensors to the new 840 unit from my previous set-up (830 and 945 watch). Once I powered up the 840 nothing would connect (although all sensors were working fine with my 945 watch).

Had to delete all sensors from the 840 and search and re-connect manually, then it worked.
