Sleep mode consuming way too much battery

I reecived my 840 Solar a couple days ago to replace my 830 that had developed altitude fault. I charged it up and updated it to 9.09, and put it on the bike and put it to sleep yesterday, came out to take bike out for a ride today and battery is completely dead. My 830 I could hit the side power button once and that turns off device and sleeps the varia radar, and the battery would last weeks then. Is this a bug/feature/issue? I dont want to have to power off completely every time, and if this is just the way it is on the 840 I will be sending it back. Anyone else experience this?

It could well be a bug. Might be worth checking the 1040 forum as the units are virtually identical and see if they're experiencing that issue. In using various Edge units since 2010, I've never used sleep mode. Some took a minute to boot up, but the 840 is pretty quick. What are the advantages of using sleep mode rather than powering off/on? One thing that is remarkable on the 840 is the run time. I've only ridden it ~3hrs but in that time the battery only went down to 90%, and that's while navigating with the map screen showing most of the time.

Does leaving it in the sun affect that rate?
