Off road cycling on farmland

Hello all you cycling folk, please be aware that if you use the garmin cycling app it will take you on private farmland, that's not a byway, actually the cyclist that nearly got mashed this evening when he ended up on the front of a very lage agricultural piece of equipment wasn't even on any lawful pathway.  Please cross check your route or get a better navigation system.  Luckily only his bike got mashed not him. He was entirely at fault,so it was an expensive lesson for him. Stay safe folks, and watch out for them farm dogs.

  • That is down to the maps not the device itself.  The maps are based on OpenStreetMap data.  If you know they are wrong in this area you can edit them to mark the relevant tracks as not for public access.  Then everything that uses these maps will update in time.

  • I didn't know the maps were wrong as they are clearly marked on O.S. maps with the footpath and footpath number. I therefore consider it is the responsibility of the user/ cyclist to make sure the data or app they are using is in fact correct.  As  working farmer, I don't have the time to this sort of information out.
