Forcing reinitialization of the device ?

Hello, hope everybody is enjoying a good summer.

Following error in handling the device (deleting some files at the root directory), the device is stuck into a boot loop.

I can have the device in mass storage mode (so I can see it in Garmin Express). So I can read all directories.

I can try to update there, but it tells me that I have the right firmware (the latest). I tried the hard reset and the reset where I push the three button at once but neither one worked.

At this point, what I want to do is clear: reset the whole device. But as I say I can only reach through Garmin Express and the computer. I do not have access to the device interface on the device.

Does anybody have a trick I can use for this ? Exemple: is there a file I could edit on the device that would trick it to think it has a previous version of the firmware and force install the new one ?

Any assistance is welcome.

Sincerely,

Pascal.

  • Hello,

I had found a number of messages in different places.. but no ‘soft solution’ has worked. I tried soft reset, hard reset (starting with the three buttons at the same time.. this should be equivalent to reformatting the device keeping the “boot”). I tried deleting some folder (new file).. but I am sure this would not be my problem since I happened deleting files, not loading new one.. I tried loading a new “location” folder.. since there is none at the root and I found that there might be one messing I would have deleted.. but my guess is that there is something else missing. The message I get before It reboots is that it is loading stuff (cources.. locations).. with three dots flashing then it restarts.

The option that is left to me is reformatting the device as “FAT32” format.. from  what I understand,  this keeps the “ Master Boot Record”.. where minimum system (that could /should be in Rom.. but not necessarily in this case).. and the device would rebuild from there AND udate afterward. My understanding is that would be equivalent anyway as restart with the three buttons. Now,

Here are my sources for the reset options.
