Help with this . fit file weird

Hi guys   wondering if anyone has had this before.
I upload a fit file to Garmin connect
At the bottom it says 130.84 km, which was the length of the ride (before the battery died). Also the amount of time the Garmin head unit shows it for in Activities when i click through.
However the data is only there in the map/tracking for 97.8k or the about 4 hours worth.

Is the file corrupt due to the battery dying at 130.84km? A bit random though it only showed the first 97.8 though. TBC the battery was fine from 97.8km to 130.84km.
Any help appreciated!!

  • There is nothing in the file to suggest a distance of 130.8km, all data points to a distance of 97.94km which was completed by 12:21 (04:20 ET). There is then a period of 02:30 hours ending at 15:54 (06:33 ET) where absolutely nothing happened. An elevation of -130.8m is at this time and stands as the minimum elevation for the ride.

It would also appear the that the Edge was powered off during the missing 2:30 hrs.

  • Yeah

Strange. On the actual Garmin unit the activity appears as 130.18km. Also on the connect page. It was definitely recording as a new lap, had the timer in front of me so am 100% sure of that.

Do fit files corrupt if recording and the battery dies

  • It is strange.  The garmin was def recording between 97.94 and 130.8 as I had it in front of me haha
also the unit shows it as 130.84.
Would the battery dying at 130.84 just have corrupted the last part of the file?

  • A corrupt file should not have correctly uploaded to Connect. There is a manual stop timer trigger event in the activity file at 97.838km, so that’s where recording was paused. The next start event is just before the end of the ride.

I’m guessing that summary data like total distance is probably kept in memory and not written to the activity file until the ride is saved. It will also be saved in the totals.fit file.

The moving time in your GC screenshot is also suspicious.
