edge 830 battery dead?

hello everybody

Far in the mountain I found an edge 830 garmin GPS. It may have been there for a while.

I tried to turn it on, nothing. At home I plugged it in and for 5 seconds the screen lit up with the empty battery logo then it turned off. Since then I have tried to get it to load in several ways but impossible. the screen never came on again.

I would say that the battery, which may have spent several weeks outside, must be dead and no longer wants to charge.

what do you think? Should I change the battery first?

thank you for your answers

  • Only if you want to waste money. I would  maybe open it up and put a meter on the battery. Yes the unit is somewhat waterproof, but laying on the ground, possibly in a puddle of water when it rained.... I'd just dump it and move on.... Would not be worth my time to even open it up.'

  • I think someone's thrown it on the roadside after it failed!

I expect you've already given it plenty of time to dry out, and also left it connected (supervised) for 3-4 hours to see if it will start charging.

Garmin used to do a battery refurb service, where you send them the device and they send you another one with a new battery, cost me about £80 in 2013 when I had my then Edge 800 done. It's still working, but I rarely use it preferring my 830.
