Start activity and use a course

Edge 830 noob question:

I have a .gpx route I wish to follow whilst tracking a bike ride. I am getting totally confused as to how I start an activity, whilst getting my Edge unit to also navigate around the route(?)

  • I have added the .gpx file to Garmin Connect.
  • I have pushed the route to my Edge 830

I looked through the Garmin online manual but could not find what I needed.

Can anyone help me at all?

Start with "Navigation & Demonstration" then "Data Screen Setup", then other might be useful

    Welcome & Good Riding

PS Navigating & Ride Recording are independent functions but which are usually done together

The activity start (record) button is the bottom right, it also stops the activity / recording

Ensure you have a good GPS fix before loading the course/starting the ride.

Sometimes, if you are very close / at the start of the ride the course loading / pressing the Ride screen "button" will ask you if you want to start, in which case you don't have to press the button to start, but remember to stop it

  • Thank you so much :)

  • Its been years since I last looked at that video so just a few more words as the video jumps into step 2 or 3

From the main screen Press Navigation, Then Courses, Scroll to your course & select, press "Ride" and if it has not asked you to start press the Activity Start / Record (bottom right), and away you go......
