Edge 830 detection not working in Garmin Expres

Probably since some win10 update, Garmin Express (latest v7.17.3) can't detect and therefore can't even update the Edge 830. At the same time, I also have a watch and car navigation connected to the GE, and the GE has no problem with these. When connected to a PC, the 830 mounts in mass storage mode in Windows without any problems, but the GE no longer detects it. So I don't know what to do with it? I tried to install GE on another PC (different version of win10) and there the 830 connected without any problems, so there is no problem with the device or the USB cable. However, going to update on someone else's PC is not exactly an ideal situation. I also tried to contact Garmin support, but they only advised me to delete the garmindevice.xml file on the device and the result is still the same... Has anyone dealt with something similar? Thanks for the advice.

  • My 830 updates itself over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. I've never needed to use Garmin Express.
With Wi-Fi access, the 830 will even keep my Garmin Pedals up-to-date.

  • But you can't update maps over Wi-Fi.  You need to plug it into a computer running Garmin Express for that.

  • I have just a partially similar story, my F6X could connected, but not my Edge 530 and my Enduro, and it started with not with 7.17.3, but with 7.18.x. After that I was unable to fix it even with rollback with GE, nor with a system restor of my win7’, I wildly deleted express related  files on my devices, no vain. Certainly I tried multiple cables even if it seened to be illogical (F6X and Enduro has the same kimd of cable)

But pretty interestingly when Garmin published 7.17.3 again as the last official W7 compliant version, this connection problems cured.

More interestingly there were nobody else complaining on it, just about the crashes of 7.18.1. I would make a try with this one forums.garmin.com/.../1663849 after a full uninstall of your present installment, I mean including each of the files linked to GE.

It costs not too much time, so if it wont fix your problem you will be not angry with me proposing some time killing stupidity. :-)

  • So installing the latest new version 7.18.1 of GE solved my problem and the Edge 830 connected successfully again...
