Edge 830 Navigation to a Location Error Message

My Edge 830 has FW 9.75, the latest mapsets from Garmin Connect manually installed today. Whenever I attempt to navigate to a location, following these direction (https://www8.garmin.com/manuals-apac/webhelp/edge830/EN-SG/GUID-BFBC1CD6-22F5-47D6-8F69-C07FB0D23E9B-3144.html), I get a calculation error message after I select "RIde." This happens every time regardless of whether I'm at the start of my ride or am somewhere else. I select Navigation, then Search, enter the address or POI or city. The map shows the area/location I've searched for, I select Ride. The 830 goes into its calculation mode and I get the error message. This happens 100% of the time. I used "Chat," which was more frustrating that useful. It ended with me uploading my "Garmin" folder from the 830 to Garmin engineering. I'm not even sure if the chat person totally understood my issue.

  • I just tried navigating to an address and it worked for me. The only difference is that I use open Street Maps and have the Garmin maps disabled.

  • rainderma - how do you have your route preferences set up? Trails, streets, etc..... Have you location routing using the Garmin maps? What caused you install Street Maps over the Garmin maps? Sorry for all the question. I'm looking for resolution that doesn't require me to completely reset my 830 or delete all folders hoping to delete a corruption issue. Thanks. TL

  • I use Open Street Maps because they are updated more frequently than the Garmin maps - which are based on open Street Maps.

I tried the Garmin map and it fails to route.

I'm convinced that the settings don't matter. My Avoid selections are: Interstate Hwys, Major Hwys, Toll Roads and Ferries. These are ignored and I am frequently routed onto a major hwy.

Here's a link to get a good map:

I use the "Garmin Openfietsmap Lite (latin1)" format.
