Cannot power off by holding power button

I have to repeatedly hold the power button down to get the power off screen to come up. Most times, the unit justs beeps several times and screen goes blank but is still on.

How can I turn this thing off?

This problem seems to be encountered by many people. I think you can try the button click again. First, you have to make sure the USB weather cap is in place. Then, place Edge under warm running water for about 10 seconds. Take it out of the faucet and press the button several times continuously. Rinse again for about 10 seconds.
