After my last update/install I have no maps on the device. A new install is available but the device wont sync. See screen grab. Weirdly new rides do upload! Any ideas?

Enough disk space on device? If - for reasons - maps are broken and won't be recognized an update may fails because of insufficient disk space. Maybe delete existing map files (do a backup before!; basecamp will show you the filenames of the maps) and try a reinstall.
njwebsterAre all of your activities loading to Garmin Connect? If not, you could try following these instructions to remove the file that is failing to sync: Removing Files that Fail to Sync in Garmin Express from the Computer.
Then to clear the map update notifications, try reinstalling the maps on your Edge: Map Details > Reinstall Map.
Once the maps are reinstalled, allow your device to GPS soak outdoors for about 2-5 minutes to require satellite signals.
