I've just seen photos of the 840 and it doesn't appear to have an aluminum base like the 1040. There are two screws which would suggest a replaceable base but an aluminum block would have been better. Especially in the 840 which is more mtb oriented

I can confirm the base is removable by those two screws, so at least there's a chance for aftermarket ones made from metal
