Sound alerts for work out count down ON - but sound alerts for power zones OFF --> seems impossible

I use Trainingpeak workouts on my Garmin 830. I like to keep the alerts (5 beeps sound) for the 5 sec countdown to a new workout step, but I dont want the alerts (no visual and for sure no irritating sound) for being inside or outside the power zones. So, 2 questions:

1) Can I turn off the alerts for power zones without turning off the countdown alert to a next workout step

2) If not, can I use 10 sec power for power zone alerts instead of 3 sec power, since 3 sec is way too unstable to be used for power zones.

Many thanks for any advice.

  • Tones are on or off. Turning the Device Tones On and Off

    1) You can disable the power alert using the steps from the manual. Setting Range Alerts Link. This will not change the countdown visual alert for the next step.

    2) Can you provide information on where you are seeing that type of settings? Is that something that can be adjusted within Trainingpeaks when creating your workouts?

  • Hi,

    1) Setting Range Alerts is not the problem, since they are turned off already. My question is about the power zone that is coming from a TP (Trainingpeaks) workout. So eg workout says cycle 10 min @ 200-230 watts, 3 min at 300-330 watts, 10 min @ 200-230 watts etc... in that case I should cycle 10 minutes in the zone of 200-230 watts but there will be small periods of a few seconds that I cycle 190 or 240 watts, since produced power on the street is quiet instable. In case I go on 190 watts or 240 watts, directly there is the annoying alerts that I am outside power zones (from TP). So disabling. at that alert I would like to turn off. But i would like to keep the alert sound for counting down to the next block, so I know I need to change power. So in this example the alert after 10 min and 15 min and 25 min etc. If I turn off sound completely, I will solve the zone alerts but I also loose the count down alert for training blocks... :)

    2) If you are executing a workout from Trainingpeaks, on the screen of the workout in Garmin (work out screen) it shows 3sec power 200-230 watts for the first block of 10 minutes. This might be something that is a default in Trainingpeaks, or a default in Garmin settings. In both cases, it would be good if athletes could change that setting to 10sec power as that is more stable.

    Thanks for any advice.

  • There is no way to make individual audio changes for the countdown or range alerts. It's all tones off or on. I would suggest using a zone workout vs such a narrow power range workout. This would decrease the alert you are getting. There is no setting to facilitate the 10 second power average for the workout steps.

  • Ok thanks. And still in some way today I cracked the code... all tones on, and workout alerts off. And it works fine :)
