Speed measurement subordinated to shimano steps

Hi,

I recently modified my Orbea Rise's (E-MTB) speed sensor so it can go faster than 25 km/h. Not that I need to go faster in the terrain but it was very annoying being interrupted by almost breaking my pedaling as soon as I cross 25 km/h. I was told that my Shimano E-8000 display will stop indicating the actual speed att about 23,2 km/h which is fine but it does exactly the same with my Garmin Edge 530 which I don't like.

Is there any way to force the Edge 530 to measure the speed from GPS instead of the Shimano Steps? I really want the bike to be paired to the Edge as I get great info from the system as cadence, motor assist level, gears etc

Thanks for advice!

  • IDK about ebikes, but the best thing would be to get a speed sensor and have the 830 use that for speed.  They work better than GPS for auto pause, auto start,  and recording distance over tortuous tracks and areas with poor GPS reception.  The official Garmin one is good, but there are somewhat cheaper alternatives on Amazon.

  • Thanks for your advice.

I will go to my local bike shop tomorrow and buy the speed sensor.
