Mac OS Garmin Express does not see my new Garmin Edge 830 connected with USB and Privacy fix does not work

MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021) M1 Max

MacOS Monterey 12.5.1 (most recent from what I can tell)

Garmin Express 7.13.2.0 (most recent from what I can tell)

Garmin Edge 830

Just installed a fresh Garmin Express to ensure I had the latest and that it was clean. I am not able to connect to the device -- my mac does not seem to see it either. The Privacy setting fix that is discussed does not help as I already had that setting correct.

  • You need to use a full USB cable (not just power), e.g. the cable that came with the device.  And you may need to plug it directly into the computer (via a USB adapter), not via a hub.

Also, you probably need to have the device powered off

  • [this miserable forum crapware submitted my post when I clicked the login button]

I was going to add that when the device is plugged in, it needs to start up as a mass-storage device (with the tethered icon on the screen) and not start up as normal.

  • You're correct, you need a data-capable USB cable, though it works through the Thunderbolt 3 hub on my Macbook also.
