Benefit of mapping on 830 versus Epix Gen 2

Aside from the performance features and metric of the 830, what are the specific benefits of using it in the 830 for mapping versus mapping in my Epix Gen 2?  Since the route data does not populate into the watch, since it is always with me versus the 830, I then can only see a ride on the connect App.

I know its one or the other, and perhaps just a gripe but feel the data should flow back to the watch

  • I'm struggling a bit with your question.  Are you wanting the mapped trace that was collected with the 830 to show up in the History view of the Epix?

  • Hi -  If not clear, I understand from a Garmin tech that you can not map a collected route from an 830 to my Epix.

Thinking more holistically,  If my main goal is mapping versus the extra performance metrics, some of which are captured in the Epix, what's the added value of the 830?  Yes, you have a screen you can look down at, but from a purely mapping perspective is it worth it?

Also, since my Varia 515 is connected to my Epix, it buzzes when a vehicle is approaching, so no specific added value there.

Within Garmin Connect Web, you can create a course from a saved activity (from 830).  That course can then be sync'd to your Epix.

I have an 830 and f7X.  While you can navigate/map with the fenix, just having the larger screen of the 830 is easier for me to see at a glance.

I actually prefer the fenix in this case.  I can't hear the 830's beeps when a car is approaching.  The vibration on the watch grabs my attention.
