ERG Mode in a trainer workout. Edge 830 and Wahoo Kickr 2022/V5

I'm creating my workout in Training Peaks using %FTP as a TARGET. I tried Garmin Connect but there isn't an obvious way to create a target power workout. If I load this onto my recently retired Wahoo Elemnt it shows the target power for each step of the workout. If I load this onto my spiffy new Garmin 830 it will only show a range. In action it does not hold a target power. My goal is to be in the middle of a zone, say zone 2 for example, but in reality, it drifts between the upper and lower limit of the zone and I'm spending a substantial amount of time in Zone 1 & 3. I tried creating a workout with a very narrow zone, about 1-2 watts but it still drifted up and down. I might add I'm doing my best to hold a steady Cadance. I'm a below knee amputee so I have a bit of imbalance.

Questions: Is there some trick to telling the 830 that I want it to use target power, NOT a range? Any other suggestions to achieving this goal? Is there a way to create a target power workout in Garmin Connect.

Controlling my trainer va ANT+ (not BTE) was a major reason I bought the Edge. I seem to have a worse problem now. :(

  • I appear to be having the same issue.
I can load a workout file in my Wahoo Bolt and control my Kickr resistance (erg mode) without issue.
I get to pick any cadence, but resistance is automagically set to maintain changing target power as defined in the workout.

I can import the same workout to Garmin Connect (Web) then sync the Workout to the 830.
But, when attempting to do the same workout ride with my 830, it fails to control the Kickr resistance.
I don't seem to be able to get the Kickr into ERG MODE while using a workout file I'm riding on the 830.

Am I missing the secret handshake?

    Thanks

    Barry

  • To user ERG mode you should remove the trainer from the sensors (power, speed/cadence) and add it as a indoor traniner.

Go to Training>Indoor Trainer an Pair ANT + Bike Trainer.

  • I created a workout in garmin connect and sent it to my Edge 830. Then, I had to turn off my power meter on the bike for my garmin to control the kickr during a workout.
