Updating Garmin 830 firmware on Chromebook

Hi there. My personal Windows PC died and I do not have installation rights on my corporate laptop to install Garmin Connect. I need to update the firmware on my Garmin 830 bike computer. Can I do this from a Chromebook? Or do I need a full blown Mac or Windows machine?  Please note: I can access Garmin Connect for ride activity, maps, etc. from any computer. I'm talking about firmware updates specifically.

    It should be able to download the firmware itself over wifi, not sure if it will do it via BT connected to your phone. The only updates I'm aware of which definitely need garmin express on a computer are map updates.

    If you have Garmin Connect on your phone and your phone is paired to the device, you should be able to update the device

    It's Garmin Express (not Garmin Connect).

    The newer Edges can get firmware updates via WiFi (you don't need a computer at all).

    You need Garmin Express for map updates.

    Garmin Express only runs on Windows or MacOS.

    Given how infrequent the need for this is, you might be able to use a friend's computer.

    A difference in what? It's too much work to watch a video to figure out what you are talking about.

    The OP is likely talking about Express (which updates the device) but mistakenly referred to Connect (which doesn't update the device and is a website accessible using any browser). (Clearly, I know they are different.)

    Garmin Express is the updater (for maps. firmware, etc) that runs on Windows and MacOS.

    Garmin Connect is the website (run through a browser).

    Garmin Connect Mobile is the app that runs on a phone/tablet. This can be used to update some things (like IQ apps/widgets/datafields).

    Garmin ConnectIQ is the "IQ store" app that runs on a phone/tablet.

    OK, so if IP only had a phone, how could he update device's firmware?

    Did you read the other posts in this thread?

    They have a Chromebook. That means they have access to WiFi. As I said (and others said), the firmware can be updated over WiFi. The 830 would have to be connected to the network.

    As I said, they could also use a friend's computer. If they are using Express themselves, it's fairly convenient (you can have multiple devices connected to different accounts). Given how infrequent firmware and map updates are, using a friend's computer isn't unreasonable.
