light network w/ION 200RT and Flare RT

My Bontrager ION 200RT / Flare RT are about as old as my Trek Domane SL5.  Got them both at end of April.
I struggle with the lights.   Initially I did NOT use the bontrager widget thing.  But seems like the stock controls were very minimal on the 830.

Now that I've used them for awhile, I am still not sure what I want, but simplicity is probably it.  But maybe I'm operating this combo wrong.
I had the light setup for starting once the timer starts.

When I'm prepping for a ride, I find that none of my sensor seems to automatically connect.  I do ovals on my driveway to connect my Garmin Speed and Cadence sensors.
Then I attempt to get a light network started.

Question:   should sensor reconnect automatically when powering on the 830?  or should they reconnect when I load an activity and I'm prepping to hit start?

Question:  should I manually power on my lights before or after turning on the 830?  for some reason I thought the 830 would power on the lights, but that doesnt seem to happen.

I guess I'm more of a noob with this combo.  How do YOU find is the best way to use them.  I think I'm up for trying something new/different.   Its already frustrating to not have a clear view on battery levels for these two lights.  the front had plenty of juice but the flare rt was dead.

..sigh..  thanks in advance for the help and tips

  • this reply may not help however I too am having light network issues recently - it has been roack steady until about four weeks ago. now seems that my 830 struggles to form a  network for a while...
