Elevation/Grade Inaccurate 9.40 Firmware

Just to inform that elevation changes and grade are not correct any longer with current firmware.  I was routinely being shorted 10% of previous ascent on my normal rides after updating.  I reverted back to 9.29Beta and the elevation and grade changes are fast and accurate again.  Please look into this for next firmware update.  Thanks.

  • Maybe they just made a bugfix - and your previous numbers were wrong and the new correct? ;) Well, no matter what, I never found elevation and grade, on any unit, correct anyway...

  • It is since 2020 elevation/grade problem. There are lots of topics on this forum. 530, 830, 1030 - suffer all

  • Would you be able to provide examples of where your Edge is recording dramatically different on the same climbs/routes? Any additional information or examples you can provide are helpful when looking into complaints.

  • Hi,
I've replaced 2 Garmin edge 830 devices by now for this elevation/grade problem, and now I am having this problem on my new 3rd device (I just got it a week ago).
I didn't have any problems with the edge up until this version.
What I see is that I do a circular route and I finish the route about 100 meters below the point I started it.

  • add 130 Plus to this list

  • I've had 3 Edge 530's replaced and demanded a refund...Garmin eventually sent me an 830...which worked great until it showed the exact same problem.  So, I asked for a refund and they are sending a check in the mail.  Not sure why this can't work - I love the Garmin unit in every other way.  Switched to Wahoo and so far so good.

  • Updated today to the most recent version, I think 9.5. I had over 2000 extra feet of elevation and insanely inaccurate grades showing. Thinking of taking my 520+ back from my wife. Why is this such a problem?

  • Well this is not fixed on 530 using 9.50 FW update.  I did 2 identical rides 2 days apart using 9.40 then 9.50.  3002 ft elevation on 9.40 and 2910 ft elevation with 9.50.  It's regressed even more if that's possible.  It's just so slow adjusting to quick grades coming out of a descent or fast flat section.  I routinely get at least 10% less elevation that my Wahoo ride buddies.  So it's craigslist for the Garmin and hello Wahoo.  I'm pretty sure Garmin thinks it's still 2008 and and it's only competition is CatEye.

  • I don't mind as much the variations in altitude gained/climbed as I do the wildly, like a -16 percent grade when I'm on the flat, grade mis-measures. Strava does fine with the altitude corrections if I think they are way off, but I want the gradient in real time, or at least a close approximation..

  • Hey Thanks for the Strava Altitude correction tip!!  I'm doing it now and it's like christmas in September!
