Incident detection

Two crashes this morning, first detected by Edge 830 and alarm went off on phone for a second and then fell silent. I cancelled the incident on Edge device, and when I went to look at my phone to see if a text was sent, it was powered off. So I powered back up my phone and made sure Edge was connected to it again, and started riding . About 5 minutes later I crashed again (feeling kinda stupid) going over the handle bars pretty hard. This time no incident detected and I thought, hmm, oh well. About 10 minutes later (no, not a 3rd crash) my phone alarms that an incident was detected during a more normal part of my ride, but nothing on the Edge device. I pulled out my phone in time to see message about sending alert and then it again turned completely off. Weird? No texts ever were sent.

I would like to test this again, but preferably without a crash. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

I contacted support via chat, and they insisted that neither the Edge device or the Connect app can have this sort of power over my phone, but I saw it the second time with my own eyes. The first time, I thought maybe it was the impact of my fall, but the second time I thought there is more to this. I think this is a bad bad thing if it keeps happening. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • I was testing incident detection just by dropping/throwing edge on soft couch. it was quite easy to trigger.

regarding phone turning off - I'd say it is problem with your phone and you'll sooner or later see this happening with other apps as well. maybe it gets into some vibrations when producing loud sounds which cut off the power.. just one of many possible reasons ;)
