830 says "E-bike sensor battery low" when reading the Orbea Gain E-road bike's sensor.

My 2021 Orbea Gain E-road bike sensor is read OK by the 830. Everything works as it should. But whenever I start up the bike after it has been turned off I get this warning in a window bottom of screen "Ebike sensor battery low" along with a bar graph showing a few green bars. What does this mean? A speed sensor for the Mahle web motor is in the chainstay and runs off the bike's battery. When this happens the bike's battery is always well above 50%. Anybody have this show up on their 830?

  • Exactly the same pattern here with a Colnago E64 and Edge 530. I've been wondering if it's the error message itself that simply doesn't read properly (i.e., translation errors). Maybe it should read something like: “E-bike battery: Low level detected”, where “low level” means that the battery is not fully charged.

  • We have seen similar bogus messages with our Specialized Creo when the battery was at least half charged.

  • Same problem on Giant Trance 2022 model. Have been looking for a little CR2032 battery or similar on the bike.

  • I am getting the same on an 830 with a Giant Trance x EMTB and also got loads of life in the bikes battery !!

  • What I have discovered is nobody at Garmin has a clue. They insist there is a speed sensor on my Orbea Gain that needs its battery changed which I know for sure, and have had it confirmed by an Orbea mechanic, that the sensor is hardwired into the bike's main battery. I have been ignoring the warning and nothing happens, even when it reads Ebike sensor battery critical (with over 50% range left on the bike's battery. Go figure.
