Cannot Disable Lights on Edge 830

My wife and I both have an Edge 830.  We also have a mix of Garmin & Bontrager lights.

The issue is that both 830s automatically pair with all of the lights.  The only way I have been able to deal with this in the past is to install all of the lights on both Garmins and then disable the lights that I don't want connected to that device.

The latest software update on the Garmin has removed the ability to disable individual lights.  So I now have the same issue that the lights randomly decide which Garmin they are connected to whether it is on the bike in question or not.  Deleting the lights doesn't work because as soon as the light is in range of the Garmin it will reconnect to the light.

Has anyone else had a similar issue and if so how are you dealing with it?

  • This is really infuriating because mid ride a light will connect to the wrong Garmin and then the lightis constantly connecting and disconnecting from the Garmin as it moves in and out of range giving a disconnected alert every couple of minutes

  • On 9.4 im still able to disable my Varia light. Not in the light network but it is also listed as a separate sensor and there I can disable it.

  • Thanks for your reply BeneGi.

I am not sure what you mean by "not in the light network but listed as a separate sensor".

We also have the software version 9.4.  If I go to the sensors page I have an option to :"Add sensor", "Lights", "HR Mon" and one for the dual cadence\speed sensor.  If I click on the Lights I can now see an option to enable or disable the entire light network.  This disables all lights connected to the Garmin.  If I click on the individual lights there used to be a disable option for each light.  This is now missing in 9.4.  I cannot find anywhere else that the lights are listed as separate sensors.  Can you point me in the right direction please.

  • I have this same behavior (you no longer can toggle lights on or off in the light network page). This is feature regression from earlier versions and I would like to see the functionality returned.

  • I too want to see this feature brought back. I have several tail lights on my commuter but use varia on my gravel or road bike. Because I can no longer isolate individual lights when I return home from a gravel or road ride my other lights on my commuter have gone flat from being on the whole time, even after I manually turn the Garmin turns them on once I’m heading out of the shed. Please bring back this functionality Garmin I’ve been caught out riding my commuter to work with flat batteries because of this.

  • Recently, I had an update to my Edge 830. Since then, when pairing my Edge 830, in Blue Tooth settings on my phone I have the options of connecting to my Bontrager lights, which I have not seen previously. My suggestion is to disconnect your BlueTooth connections to your lights on your phone. Maybe it will work, but it may not.
