Hi
I have an edge 830 and I'd like to download and update the firmware manually as I can't install the apps.
Anyone with any experience of this?
Thanks in Advance
Martyn

You mean via Garmin Express on your PC?
I use VMWARE Player to run Windows 10, and there I have Garmin Express installed. That's how I've updated the device's maps (over 2GB I think it was).
oh yes, that's true for FM updates. How about maps update? Have you tried that over WiFi?
Map updates can only be done with Garmin Express on a Windows PC or Mac.
I also work with Linux (Ubuntu) and do the map updates with Windows Garmin Express running in Linux VirtualBox.
If you have no virtual Windows (or Mac), you can download and use other maps.
Connect your Garmin to your Linux pc and put the dowloaded map in the correct map of your Garmin. In Garmin settings you must activate the new map and deactivate the old Garmin map (=based on OSM).
Some places to download maps: Free maps for Garmin brand GPS devices (based on OSM) and Open Fiets (Bicycle) Map (based on OSM)
And also OSM Map On Garmin/Download
Hi,
Thanks for all the answers. I found this page www8.garmin.com/.../download_details.jsp with a download option and instructions - but it is beta. Any idea if there is an appropriate page for latest public release
