Stop alert/alarm/melody when I reach course point.

Hi all

I use my 830 for some kind of XC traveling and sightseeing but always miss my course points. Is it possible to rise some kind of alarm or melody when I reach my points to notify me about stopping? There are usually 3-4 on a route and each time at least 1 missed.

I am thinking about similar to a mobile phone alarm, it will not shut down until I unblock the mobile and click something.

Thanks

  • these points I meant, not the navigation one

  • I get a notification at the bottom of the screen but never noticed if there is a sound alert or not as they are not loud enough for me to hear anyway for any alert whilst riding.

But, I never miss the course points as I keep a check on them on the course points data page and take notice of the distance of how far away I am from it and add it to the distance I have already ridden mentally so I know when to expect it, or I press the lap button and keep a check on how far away I am that way depending on how I have configured the method of "autolap".

  • Thanks for the ideas Thumbsup

  • Just spotted that I had forgot to mention the main method that I use and is the simplest way as the other methods are just alternative methods that I use.

On one of the data pages that you use, create a data field "Crs Pt Dist", that way you will always be able to see how close to the next course point you are. There is also one for time to next course point as well or something on those lines but I have never used it.

Don't use "Dist to Next" as all sorts of things get listed on that from turns to locations etc and you don't really have a clue to what it is referring too till you get there..

I have the data field "Crs Pt Dist" at the bottom of the map page along with distance so I can add the two together in my head easier for  my alternative methods,  but as using the map page uses a lot more battery life than a data page I am usually using a Connect IQ app which does not have the data field "Crs Pt Dist" or can I create one on it, I then have to use one of my alternative methods and then just keep a check on things every now and then by having a quick look at the map page.

  • Awesome! On the default map, I have two data fields max and I used time of the day and heart rate. I think I can sacrifice the time of the day. Will try the next ride. Thanks.

I think that my problem is my routes mainly are trails in the forests and fields. Sometimes it is hard to see some POIs like castle ruins or similar, especially when I am already tired and concentrated mainly on a road. The more complicated that I must put course point on a... well.. course but POI is somewhere aside, where I must walk, not ride.

  • If the POI is off the road and you have to walk, an easy way to do it is to use your route planner to make a "spur" off the main track to the POI, that way it is part of your "Track" etc and then you cannot miss it

The problem is though , will your route planner allow you to create a track to follow a road etc, but then allow you to switch from "Auto Routing" to "Direct Routing" to create that "Spur" to the POI etc.

I have included two pictures to show what I mean.

I want to do a ride on the road and visit the POI which is a castle moat in the middle of a field and no track or road to it..

I use auto routing to the closest point too the POI using Auto Routing.

Then from that point use Direct Routing to the POI and also a return from the POI to get back to the road

And then switch back to Auto routing to continue the route.

A course point or location or both could be added to where the POI is.

The only route planner that I use is the old Garmin Mapsource which allows you to do this. Garmin Basecamp might allow you to do it, but basically, Basecamp is total garbage and that is being polite and always has been. Mapsource is very simple and uncomplicated to use and does everything you need but you do need to install OSM maps for it to work but as they are the same maps that I have on my 530, I have 100% compatability.

  • Wow, awesome, thanks a lot
