ClimbPro Without Routes

When will ClimbPro become available without loading a course?  Hammerhead just released this feature for their Climber feature. www.dcrainmaker.com/.../hammerhead-updated-climbr-functionality-no-longer-requires-route.html

  • My guess is that this is very unlikely to be released for the 830.

  • It means it's constantly in "navigation" mode to look for climbs. Battery? CPU power?

  • Since the competition puts Garmin under a bit of pressure, I would only expect this to happen with the successor models of 530/830/1030+. I don't suppose this will be added to older models. Would then certainly be seen as an additional incentive for Garmin to buy new Edge models. But maybe it doesn't come at all. Only Garmin knows that. I would like to have that!

  • I read DC Rainmaker's review and the Karoo specs, its a good price compared to the 1030+. With ALL the Garman's faults I would still prefer my 530s 40+ hour battery (no BT or WiFi connections), minimal to no backlight, following course but no "turn guidance:, over a 12 hr Karoo.(I don't use ClimbPro anyway). Ginger up the competition is good but not at the expense of battery,

  • I see many incidents of burnt USB port when wet, which doesn't happen that often on Garmin devices. It means the hardware design (water resistant flap, eletrical protection mechanism, etc) is still young. But I like their UI (not that I hate Garmin's), and will probably wait for Karoo 3 or 1040, whichever comes first.

  •  Former Member I get alerts to upcoming tight turns when not in navigation mode so why not climbs?

  • The look-ahead for tight turns is very short. Like in "the next half-mile".
