Incident alerts

Can anyone tell me exactly what sets off an incident alert on the Edge 830?  Mine had done it the last two rides and I don't know why.  No sudden stops, sudden change of direction to avoid an object.  I like the idea of this feature but so far in the real world it doesn't seem to work very well.  This is on a road bike and it is very annoying!  Thanks!

  • Does it happen when you lean, or just randomly? It has an accelerometer and who know how Garmin programmed it to sense an "alert."

  • For me, it sometimes triggers when I break on intersections with only the last few seconds a bit harder to come to a full stop. Also on roadbike.

  • I can't figure out what I'm dong to set it off.  All of the rides where it has gone off have been the same route but it goes off at different places.  One was at an intersection where I was making a left turn, not a sudden turn or at high speed.  The last time was at an intersection where I had to stop for a red light and I slowed down over a fairly large distance.  It is frustrating and I am on the verge of turning if off.  This last time my wife was in Mexico and suddenly gets an alert that her hubby could possibly be a smear on the road back in Oregon.  Not a good situation. :-(

  • I use my 830 on a mountain bike, so imagine the alerts it'll send? So I just turn mine off. I think it's a good idea but a bad implementation.
