How to install Singapore map to a Edge 830 (Euro set)

Bought the Edge 830 from Lordgun.com and found out it come with Euro map only. Been trying to install the 3rd party map from BBBike as recommended by other Forum guys but still cannot see Singapore map. Appreciate if Garmin can assist, tried purchasing the map from Garmin.com but to no vail. Hope this Edge will not be a failure:(

Did you download the (latin1) codepage version of the map? If names and labels are unreadable, you could try UTF-8

The map will only show up if you have a GPS fix in the area that is covered by the Singapore map.

UTF-8 won't work.

You can pan to maps in other regions (you don't need a fix in the region covered by the map).

Just zoom out, pan to the area, and then zoom in.

Thanks for the 'UTF-8' statement. Thought it could be worth a try.

The 'zoom - pan - zoom ' never came up to me. Thanks for the tip.

You have to use the "hand" on the map page to get it into "pan" mode.

It's a bit of a mystery that the Edges can't use the UTF-8 versions (they work on some Garmin devices).

(I just tried the UTF-8 version. It doesn't even show up in the list.)

Download the map (it is in compressed .zip format) from: https://download.bbbike.org/osm/bbbike/Singapore/ Choose one of the maps you need in latin1 format (Onroad, Ontrail or OpenTopoMap)

Then follow the instruction from a similar thread on this forum in the Edge Explore part about installing North America maps. See: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-explore/288499/install-europe-routable-maps-on-north-america-830

It's really not difficult and straightforward - download the .zip archive, extract gmapsupp.img, rename the gmapsupp.img (this is to prevent possible overwrite of other maps. Beware to preserve the .img filename extenion.), copy the renamed map .img file to the device in ..\Garmin. Let the device restart, then on the device select the Singapore map as the only routable map beside the Basemap, which has to be selected allways. If you let the device get a GPS fix, you must see the Singapore map. Or use the "zoom - pan - zoom" procedure of @dpawlyk
