Why won't Garmin solve the reroute issue?

We all know the reroute option whilst navigating on the 830 just doesn't work well. I'd go so far as to say it's not fit for purpose. I understand it works considerably better on the 1030+. Surely this is simply just a software solution for garmin to improve it for the 830? The hardware is already on unit...they just have to use the same algorithm used by the 1030+. 

Why don't they do it?

    The Karoo might be using a faster processor. It's much larger than the 830. The battery life of the Karoo appears much shorter than the 1030+.

    When I tried a Karoo a long while ago, my impression was they had never used a computer for navigation. I believe you still can't just copy course files to it.

    I've read reports of issues with the Wahoo.

    I'd have to see it to believe it.

    One issue that Garmin has is legacy software: it's not like Garmin has rewritten the software for newer units. It might be that they need to rewrite the software but that would take years and cost too much.

    The rerouting works sort-of OK on the 1030+. Not sure why it doesn't appear to work as well on the 830.

    I assume the Edge uses points along the route to build it when loading.  Isn't that what it's doing when you load a route and it shows "Calculating..."?  I could be wrong, but my guess is that there are points it is using during that calculation.

    For "turn guidance" (the big white arrows), the device "walks" the track to determine the roads/paths the track appears to follow. It creates a secondary route from this (it's this secondary route that has the bug white arrows).

    This calculation isn't fast.

    Keep in mind that the Garmin devices can create a route without a track.

    Garmin changed it on the 1030+ to be more useable.  Garmin did not port this to any other unit.  This is why there is a difference.

    The Karoo needs the backlight on all the time to make the screen visible which is partly why the battery life is not as good.  They don't use LCD screens that work without backlights in daylight.  It is essentially an Android phone repurposed into a bike computer.

    Yes, the software is different but it doesn't seem to make much sense that they haven't updated the 830 too.

    As far as I know, the 830 processor is about the same speed as that being used in the 1030+ (the 1030 is slower than both).

    I don't think the Karoo uses the same sort of typical LCD screen used in typical Android phones. (Yes, it's more-or-less an Android phone.)

    Yes...as per my original post ..why aren't Garmin bringing to the 830 what they have implemented on the 1030 plus?

    Garmin "rerouting" doesn't actually reroute. The 830 keeps directing you to make a U turn to return to the point where you departed from the planned course. This is not helpful when you can't continue on the planned course to to a road closure for instance. There are many other reasons why someone may wish to deviate from the original plan.

    I’ve just spent 250 euros on a navigation device for a big cycle tour this year and this rerouting issue has really pee’d me off. On a tour you go off track to see things and I may as well look at a paper map to get back on course quicker than all the faffing around. Apart from telling me my speed stats and uploading to Strava for me personally this device is a massive disappointment.

     Not Happy !
