Making room for additional maps

I need to download European maps, which I purchased, but I get a message that there's not enough room. What can I remove from the Edge 830 to make room without losing the US maps, which I also use all the time. Can't I have both on the same device at one time? I go back and forth frequently.

  • You could copy the American maps off your unit and put them back when you need them.

You shouldn't have bought the Euro maps from Garmin.  You can download the areas you are interested in for free.  If you don't need the whole continent they will be much smaller.

  • I can fully support Wongataa's answer. It is a bit of a pity the Edge 830 (and others) does not hold an SD card holder (good for water protection though) and the on board memory is rather small.

Maybe, as he pointed out, you can just download the part of Europe you need and maybe that will fit in available memory, with your US maps still on it. You can also look at www.openfietsmap.nl/downloads

  • you won't be able to fix the storage issue as it's a device limitation, but you can follow the below guide and have the EU maps installed (by deleting the US maps) and later you can if needed delete the EU maps and re-install via Connect the US maps.

Not convenient but works as I've had the same exact situation here.
