Re‐Routing 830 issue fixed with SW Update finally?

As I'm a Fenix user for other sports, I'd stick with Garmin for bike Navigation to have all data on one platform.

EDGE 1030plus is way too much for me in every sense and 830 seems to be a good compromise to what I need in terms of graphics, formfactor, usability and price.

I didn't get it yet due to the uselessness of re-routing as it can be read in the forums. I read as well that in 1030plus this issue is solved and re-routing works fine and 830 users ask why Garmin does not roll this out to the lower end.

Has anyone here eventually an update on this?

That'll be awesome.

Thanks, Stefan

  • No update to re-routing...the 830 routing is still stuck in the 1990's.

  • I'm wondering if any "Listen-to-our-Customer" or "Customer-Support" or whatever AI Algorithm and Garmin is reading these threads...

I don't get why 530/830 folks are treated that bad in comparison to 1030 folks. Especially with a competitor Wahoo.

I'll monitor further whats going on in terms of SW Updates that eventually include the new 1030 re-routing for 530/830 until I make a final decision which way to go: 530/830 or Wahoo...

  • Well Garmin did finally improve the re routing but it is disappointing that they didn't back port it to the 530/830.  As Garmin have never said they will bring it to the 530/830 I suspect it never will and if you want the improved re routing you will need to buy a 1030 Plus or whatever the replacement units are for the 530/830 when they come out.  Note that this improved re routing has not been brought to the 1030 either.  It is only available in the 1030 Plus.

Maybe there is a technical reason?  Maybe it is purely a business decision?  I suspect the latter.

  • So far I compared for my next purchase decision just Edge Series with corresponding wahoo, but now Hammerhead Karoo 2 came into the play as well. Seems like not only Auto re-route is not an issue but also Display capabilities, usage and supported features as such are way ahead of Garmin (smaller Batt - enough for me). Good to have alternatives...
