Power Match on Edge - use pedal power with trainer

*EDIT*

I think I figured it out.  Two issues - had 3 second smoothing on, *and* I think the ConnectIQ ANT+ power field was disconnecting the (non-IQ) ant+ connection to the power meter, so the default field was pointing to the trainer's power.

It does look like I'm able to display the power from the pedals while still using the trainer control.

--original post:

I just picked up a pair of Garmin Rally XC200 Power Meter pedals.  I'm getting rid of my stages dual sided cranks on all my bikes to use the Rally instead.  I did test at the same time and the Rally seems to stick within a few watts of the Stages, so I think they're both tracking well.

Now for my trainer, I have an Elite Direto Interactive Smart Trainer.  That thing reads anywhere from 15-30 watts lower than the Rally pedals.  I don't doubt it would read lower as it's going through the drive train, but this is while putting out only 150-200 watts.  I'd prefer to log the power from my Garmin Rally, instead of the Trainer's power.

I've searched the forums here and some people say - simply switch the Garmin power over to the pedals.  However this doesn't appear to be so cut and dry.  I connected my smart trainer (as a smart trainer, not a power meter).  I then made sure to connect my Garmin Rally power meters.  So the following are connected:

Trainer: Elite Direto

Power Meter: Garmin Rally XC200

-This is where it gets weird.  I used some IQ data fields to view the ANT+ power, so I had the following 3 fields:

1: Power (I had the Rally connected as the power meter).

2: IQ field - Rally Power

3: IQ field - Direto Power

--So I started the Garmin Edge Trainer controller to the Direto and set a consistent resistance level. (1 of 10). And I pedaled a steady 70 cadence.

As expected with the IQ fields, Rally was reading higher than Direto. The problem is - my default power field seemed to line up with the DIRETO (Trainer).

The cycling dynamics page however seemed to be reading the power from the Rally pedals.

--So for the sake of consistent training, I want to use the POWER from my pedals, not the trainer.  I just want the trainer to adjust as needed.  Has anybody pulled this off with the Edge using the default trainer app?

Notes: The Direto does not offer Power Match.  I'd rather not sell it at a huge loss and spend a fortune on another trainer.  I have used XERT app on the Edge before and this DOES offer power match within the app.  However I'm just not riding at the level where I want to subscribe to any services right now.

Also, if a connect iq app like Xert can do this, I don't see why Garmin wouldn't add the option straight into the Edge trainer app.

It does look like I'm able to display the power from the pedals while still using the trainer control (which is what I wanted) - a built in power match option would really be nice, but I think this is close enough.
