WTF? 9.10 Update Broke Ligts

In the prior version my lights were kinda weird and needed reconnecting periodically but the generally worked.

Since 9.10 they’re fkd.  Won’t reconnect.  Not even after resetting lights and trying to re-pair.  Varia RTL515, Bontrager Ion 200 RT & Flare RT

Garmin, do you even test your software?  Seems like there’s always issues,  FR610 FR910xt FR235 Fenix3.

Shoulda known better than to install the update before checking here.

Edit: wait, now I have to specifically tell the 830 to search for sensors when I turn it on?  What a PITA   C’mon Garmin, you’re supposed to be better than this

  • FW 9.10 seems to work well with my RTL-510, but it is the only ANT+ light I'm using.

  • Ion Pro RT & Flare RT work well in fw. 9.10 for me. Both in sensors menu and Bontrager Light Control IQ app.

  • my 830 is on 9.10 and had no issues on 100k ride with RTL515/UT800

  • Hi there.  MeToo. Very unstable connection and limited or no function.

Early days but I may have found problem.  It might have started when I commenced leaving my phone connected to garmin via Bluetooth during rides.

When I turn off phone Bluetooth the lights connect and function 100%.

Not sure why this would be so. Are the lights connecting to garmin  via Bluetooth or ant+ and do we have any control over this?

This means garmin cannot access phone functions and run lights at the same time. I am trying setting up stable light network then connecting phone once stable.  Has worked on first two tries.

  • I ended up downgrading to v7.10, and then based on another suggestion I ensured that I'd woken my speed/cadence sensor before turning on the Edge 830.  Something about not having that sensor active - which the Edge had been paired with before the Varia - would throw things off.  Maybe that would work on later version but I've not been willing to make the effort of trying a new version and downgrading again.

Interesting note about the phone bluetooth.  Haven't had that issue with mine as far as I know.

    Thanks.

  •  I'm guessing you don't have the Varia RTL515?  That seems to be what messes stuff up when it's added to the mix.

  • Indeed, no Varia. Ion Pro RT & Flare RT only. 2 out of 3 from your initial post. Looks like combination of all 3 makes trouble.

  • Update - now al very stable with lights synced before phone conntected, .

I am using the Bontrage lights Data Field and the Smart lights Data Field downloaded via the Garmin Connect app that are both good (especially the latter) - not sure if they are also helping in maintaing a stable "network"
