Can anyone say how the touch screen performs compared to that on the 820? E.g. Is responsiveness when wearing gloves any better, and do you still get phantom taps from rain and sweat?

I have never used a 820 and I have read the 830 is much better...but my 830 touch screen is very bad, 50% of the drags register as taps and half the taps don't register (with bare fingers}. My guess is Garmin knows it bad because the screens that are scrollable all have scroll arrow in the bottom line, why would you waste 1 line out of 6 total on a tiny screen for scroll arrows if it worked well.
Rain doesn't seem to cause phantom taps. With gloves the screen works about the same for me.
The 820 and 830 are the only Edge devices I've owned. The 830 is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the 820. The 820 may go down in history as the worst product Garmin ever made.
The 830 is far from perfect, but the touchscreen works much, much better. With bare hands it registers taps 90-95% of the time. Works with some of my touchscreen compatible gloves really well. Taps and drags need a firmer press to register, especially with older gloves where the "touch" material has worn off or they've been through the wash more. Eventually some gloves lose their touch ability completely.
The rain and sweat situation has not improved at all in my experience. Get ready to lock your screen at the first sign of raindrops. Long-press power button, select Lock (or Unlock at end of ride).
