What are you using to display the map?

Houses are likely a map object type that the Garmins just don't display.

The Garmins can only display limited number of different types of things.

Houses likely don't rank as useful enough.

That's not the same map.

The Garmin Cycle Maps (also based on OSM) that come with the units don't appear to have houses at all. They don't show up on BaseCamp, for instance.

Changing the theme doesn't change that. Changing the map from Auto to Custom (detailed) doesn't change it either.

If the same map (the exact same IMG file) shows houses in one program (using BaseCamp on a PC, for example) and not on the unit, then the house information is there but the unit isn't displaying that information.

The map with stuff to display is the Garmin Cycle Map. So, if there were houses, it would be in that map. The DEM map has elevation data. The Geocode map has addresses of locations/POIs for searching. Trailforks is used for mountain bike trails.

Apparently, there are no houses in the Garmin Cycle maps.

The TOPO V5 should be listed as another name (not "Garmin Cycle Map"). So, it doesn't appear you are using the TOPO V5 on your 830.

Of course I know, that is not the same map. I just wanted to show, that the 830er is able to show houses on the map.

Where is the Topo V5? Isn’t it listed under maps on your 830er?

I never doubted there were ways of getting houses to be displayed.

I'm talking about an issue with a particular map (the Topo V5 map).

It seemed that 1599845 was saying that the Topo V5 map showed houses in one place and not on the 830 (it's not clear).

From the list of maps they provided, it appears the Topo V5 map isn't on their 830.

The Topo V5 map is not shown in the list you provided. Your list shows the Garmin Cycle Map (which is the standard map) and other maps with other purposes. None of these is the Topo V5 map.

As far as I understand, the Topo V5 is an extra purchase (it doesn't come with the unit). I don't have it (on my 1030+).

If you actually have the Topo V5 map installed but just didn't include it it the list, then make sure you disable the Garmin Cycle Map and enable the Top V5 map.

The 830 might be displaying the Garmin Cycle Map instead of the Topo V5 map. (The Garmin Cycle Map does not have houses.)
