Is it possible to hick/walk using the 830, and so to store the GPS route, and see your position?

To unload my phone, and to have a second source to map the gps points:
Is it possible to use the 830 also for walking/hicking? This because walking is a slower pace compared to cycling.
I figured out it is possible to load detailed maps yourself.
People having any experience?
Best regards and thanks for the answers!

  • Sure, it's possible. You might need to disable auto start/stop (where the unit stops calculating you average speed when it drops below a certain speed).

Try it with a short walk around your neighborhood.

  • It works and the track will be accurate. Speed and avg speed will be somewhat off even with auto pause disabled. The algorithms on the bike gps units just don't work well for walking and hiking.
