Battery Savings Mode and Maximum Screen Brightness?

Is it possible to configure the 830 to use Battery Savings Mode (i.e. screen goes off after a set period of inactivity), but when the screen is on, the backlight is set to maximum?

The screen brightness always reverts to auto brightness, when using BSM. But the screen can be difficult to see in bright sunlight, so that's why I'd like max. brightness.

Is there an app available, if the 830 can't be configured directly?

Thanks for any help.

  • I wonder what else Battery Save Mode does other than Smart Recording, GPS Only, Turn Off Bluetooth/Wi-Fi, Turn Off Screen, ? Perhaps a similar saving is possible by specifically setting these options and a reduced screen brightness with say 15 second turn off. Most notifications will still wake it up (for the 15 seconds) and when you want to look at it a touch on the screen or button will wake it. PS I use no back-light in "bright sunlight" and think the screen is much better than previous Garmins I have used, an angle near horizontal seems best. No configuration app that I know of.

PS BSM talks about "turning screen off" rather than reduced back-light so perhaps it then suspends some processes like screen drawing/updates and saves more power

  • Thank you for the reply and information.

  • I've done some tests, with BSM for a long rides. My problem is that I ride with varia radar, and on every car behind me the garmin screen goes on. So I've found out, that not using bsm and just setting screen brightness to minimal saves a lot more battery than bsm. but, obviously, it's only good during daylight

  • Thanks for the reply Grinning

I too use Varia, I'll try your suggestion about switching BSM off.

But I would still be interested in a fix for max. screen brightness.

Maybe the Garmin Mods could offer their encyclopedic wisdom Wink
