830 dropping sensors

Most of these posts are old but is this still a common problem?  I have had an 830 for about a month and yesterday the power sensor in my Garmin Rally pedals did not work at all and the HRM, also a GARMIN, gave up after about 5-10 minutes.  I was unable to get them back without a full factory reset.

Not so impressive.  Is an Element Bolt in my future after all?

Thanks,
Rob

  • From what I've seen, still a common problem, its just that people have stopped posting in the month since 8.20 has been released and I presume (like me) are waiting for Garmin to fix it. I've thought about sending in fit files (and may still do) but figure the widespread nature of the problem that they will already have plenty of data to go on.

I'm considering Element Bolt, but have heard they have had more problems with GPS (which also takes longer to boot/acquire signal), similar problems with sensors dropping out, and am not ready to jump out of the pan and into the fire. I'm going to give 530 software another round of updates and will then make a decision about whether to stay or go based on whether things have improved or not.

  • Thanks CamGR!  I did a full restart yesterday pre ride, had some shaky HR connection at first, but then things settled down and worked for the ride.  I guess I reboot my computers regularly to solve their hiccups, why not my head unit?  (-:

  • You can be assured, that Garmin support are working furiously on the fix.

Expect it to arrive at the same time as Halley's Comet.

  • With it being intermittent i have rides where there are no dropouts, and rides where it drops out every 5 to 10 minutes. Tell me, do you have DI2 and a Shimano WU101 or WU111 wireless unit installed in your cabling? Just trying to find a common cause (beyond *** hardware/software design on Garmins behalf).

  • Hi, in my case, the bike hardware is fairly old, 5+ year-old Ultregra, nothing wired or wireless going on.  I do mount my iPhone 11 on the handlebars near the Edge 830 but they seem to play nicely together via Connect.  When I had problems, I quit all the apps I had open on the phone to see if there was something going on with one of them.  No change or effect.

Do we know Garmin is even reading our moaning and groaning?  (-:
