MTB Trail Navigation: Wrong Set of Local Trail Networks Listed

I'm interested in riding a local (<50 miles away) MTB trail system that I haven't visited yet.  I tried to pull up the system on my 830 Navigation/MTB Trail Navigation menu (screenshots shown below).  But when I get to the list of trail systems, the list displayed is near the Tacoma, WA area where I visited many months ago.  I'm now as home in central Indiana.  I can't for the life of me figure out how to get a listing of local trail systems.  Help please.

  • I suspect that the problem is that you don't yet have a GPS lock. Looking at the first image you posted you can see that GPS has not yet got a lock. It is likely using your last know location until it gets a GPS lock.

Try getting a GPS lock and then do the search.

I know Trailforks went to a paid model for their Android / iOS apps that affected the following:  You can still access all trails via website. You can only access your 'Home' area on the Android / iOS apps unless you pay.

I seriously doubt this would cause any type of issue on the Edge (if so, I'd think it had to be accidental).   I'm on the paid model so I can't confirm (not having issues myself). -Again, I doubt the paid model could have anything to do with it, but just spit-balling an idea.

On the central indiana note - the most recent Garmin Trailforks map 2021.10 SERIOUSLY screwed up all of central Indiana (I haven't been to other areas since then).    Would you mind checking to see if the local trails are broken for you as well, as you are probably familiar?

Issue 1: Town Run Trail (Indianapolis) is actually missing a huge chunk of the trail now.  You can see the missing areas with the OpenStreetMap data that falls under the Trailforks overlay.

Issue 2: Brown County State Park - the trails (which looked OK on the previous map release) are no missing large chunks and no longer connect.  Aynes / GreenValley / North connection area have large sections that just cut off into blank space and don't connect (I know this wasn't an issue last year).

Issue 3: I built out all the HNF Hickory Ridge trails south of Nebo into Trailforks last year.  For whatever reason only 1/4 of them made it to the Garmin Trailforks 2021.10

I used my Trail Karma to manually download Indiana's (img) map directly from Trailforks (not the included Garmin version from the device).  I made a new MTB profile for it and set to 'classic' colors so the difficulty colors show.  It looks perfectly fine.  Nothing missing in brown county.  Nothing missing in hickory ridge.

Really just curious if you see the issues I've mentioned....I've tried re-downloading the maps.  Oddly enough, after doing so the file create date doesn't update on the map files within the Edge.  Hoping to confirm if my edge is corrupt or if the maps really did get screwed up.  I'd opened a ticket but it didn't get anywhere.  It's basically useless for MTB navigation in this area now.  I can use the 3rd party trailforks map but it runs into issues generating courses.

  • , I have used my Edge numerous time since returning from Washington in my local area and certainly have achieved a GPS lock.  I am still stuck with the trails list from Tacoma, not Indiana.

  • Former Member, I am not paying Trailforks.  So maybe that's an issue?

I used Basecamp to review the Trailforks map (2021.10) loaded on my Edge.  And indeed, the is a large chuck of Town Run missing North of 465 and a bit south of 465.

  • Finally figured out a work around to view local trails.  I had to select one of the trail systems in the current Trail Network list to get to the map.  Then had to drag the map to my location, and select the "Use" button in the lower right corner, select the check mark to navigate to the new location, ignore the "No routes found..." message, hit back arrow, reselect the MTB Trail Navigation menu item, and a local trail network listing shows up.  Very convoluted and non-intuitive.  Don't understand why a list within the GPS location doesn't populate.

  • Turn your phone into a cycling GPSNavigate offline with the best backcountry mountain biking app and trail maps.
  • I have the exact same issue since I got the device. Did a factory reset once and then a local trail network showed up, but it never changed after that.

  • Thanks! It has been an year I tried to work this out!!! Thanks for finding and sharing!!! Really appreciated
