Unable to start Live Track on Edge 830

Android phone with Garmin Connect on phone and Edge 830. Worked for awhile and now always defaults to Wi-Fi connection. Have reinstalled Connect many times. Shut off Wi-Fi on the Edge and tried it also with no Wi-Fi connection on phone. I eliminate the old Edge connection when i reinstall Connect, but that also does not help. In search of a solution . . .

Check that you have “Allow all the time” location permission set for the Connect app.

I really shouldn't need to bring my phone to have live track work.

How can live tracking work without a phone? How would it send tracking information?

You absolutely need a suitable phone with you for Live Track to work. The device broadcasts your position Connect running on the phone via Bluetooth and the Connect uses the phone's cellular data connection to transmit your position to whoever you have set tracking you.

Connected features such as Live Track only work with connected phones.

I think I misunderstood what live track meant .. since my last map update, when I'm using navigation it doesn't follow me along on the road as I ride ... I thought that's what live track was .. I understand now that its something within Garmin Connect .. which yes .. I understand you would need a phone for that. sorry for any confusion.
