  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Changes made from version 8.10 to 8.13:

  • Fix Issues with Trailforks Map Unlocking
  • Fix Crashes drawing Third Party Maps
  • Fix Issue with Fazua BLE Scanning

Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Edge 830 device to your computer using the micro-USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Edge830_813Beta.zip folder.
  3. Copy the GUPDATE.GCD file from the Edge830_*** distribution folder to the \Garmin folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  4. If there is a GPS_*** folder, place the 006B310706.GCD file into the \Garmin\RemoteSW folder of the device. Please note, not all Beta releases will include an update.
  5. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the Edge, and wait for the update to finish.
  6. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE_810.GCD file in the \Garmin folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device.
NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • I had my unit appear to freeze and reboot during my first ride using navigation on 8.13. The Garmin boot screen was displayed but it had three dots which I don’t remember seeing before. After that one reboot the unit worked fine.

  • Update to 8.13 mainly to connect to my Fazua. Now able to see power and cadence readings on the Edge. One ride done, without routing, without any noticeable problems

  • Ride With GPS routes won’t download on this beta. If you download the route it says it’s available in courses but it’s not. If you tap download & ride you get an error as pictured.

  • yesterday i have a shutdown. and the sensors continue with disconections

  • Not installing any new Garmin firmware on my 830 until the "Classic" map option actually respects the intent of map creators for object visibility at programmed zoom levels. Don't break map behavior that has been in place for 2 decades on a whim.

  • "...respects the intent of map creators for object visibility at programmed zoom levels..."

Do you mean as the OSM creators intended or as per the settings in the "Map Visibility" options, I have never been able to make those options work at all, have you? What I would like is to turn off both "Street Labels" and " Land Cover" completely to make a simpler, cleaner map but when I set these options nothing changes in the Map view.

  • I suppose I'd settle for remaining consistent across the life of a particular device, since even different Garmin devices behave differently. Garmin can't even understand how device DPI affects the appearance of the same map on different Garmin Edge generations. The default Garmin map is too small for the current generation of devices after they bumped up the screen DPI. Change in DPI makes controlling what's displayed based on the current zoom setting less useful now as well. An Edge 830 at 120m shows about the same area as an Edge 800 at 300m. After I went from an Edge 800 to 830 I had to bump up the road widths for my custom map.

Looking for a feature Garmin. Resolution independent map scaling.

  • That is my experience as well. Together with sometimes showing 0 as power and cadence when pedaling. Very frustrating experience for a device that is two years old.

  • It seems more an early alpha version, is it not?

  • It’s the worst beta I have run on my device.
