Trailforks SW 8.10

TF is still not working.

The "Trailforks Connect IQ app is not stored on the device" Bug is not appearing anymore, which is good. But now, after loging in, it says "maps already unlocked", and it goes back to the Edge main menu. If I try to circumvent through "navigation -> mountainbike trailnavigation" it still says "maps already unlocked"...

There is a workaround though. When it asks you to log in, you just cancel it (press X) and you can enter the menu. Still, this shouldn't be. And it also won't work if you go through the navigation menu.

Oh, and TF maps is still stuck on 2019.10... Tried soft- and hard reset, connecting several times to GE, all to no avail.

I wonder whether it's a Garmin or a TF problem (or both...).

  • well that's not good.  I never got that far...

Foolishly I tried the update, wound up spending the last hour fighting a boot loop issue that started the moment I got past the setup screens. Managed to get back to get back to OS 6.2 (unlocked trail forks but the 2019.10 map set. grrrrr) by tapping the screen in the right spot fast as could be. OS 6.2 is stable for on my 2nd replacement unit as is OS 7.1  but on this device, it (7.1) suffers the "Trailforks cannot be unlocked" error.

Looks like I'm living with 2.5 year old maps on an old OS till the day this device dies.

  • This issue is related to your device and not the new software. We are looking into what is causing the problem. I will update you when we have a resolution.

  • So much for hoping it was software related and I could get off the device swapping merry go round...

thank you for the update, I will sit tight until there is a resolution.

  • / - We believe we have resolved the problem for your devices on our side. Please follow the instructions outlined in this FAQ (Issues Downloading TrailForks Map Updates to an Edge 530/830/1030 Plus) to unlock the maps and then use Garmin Express to update the TrailForks map. Please let me know if this did not resolve your problem.

  • Hey. Thx for your quick answer. I‘d like to try this, but the link doesn‘t seem to work for me (Error: access denied).

Might the login bug be related to this?

  • Scorp1981-. Do a text search on the link, the instructions will pull up.

Waiting a little longer on mine being stable before I declare success regarding the update

  • OK, found it (thx pkcryan). Tried it. Didn't work... When I enter the TF menu and select "unlock maps" it just exits the app and the message "maps already unlocked" appears, like mentioned in the first post. I still tried this several times, but GE just won't find the update.

  • , your Link goes to the Garmin internal Supportserver. So please open your firewall that we can have access or send the right link Wink .

  • I don't know if it matters or not but here are the starting conditions for my device when I attempted the update-

figuring that it was heading back to Garmin since everything above OS 7.1 has been a dumpster fire of boot looping mayhem for me- I deleted it from Connect and Express this afternoon and ensured that tthere were no "custom" maps on the unit. Then did a factory reset and load 8.1 onto it (might as well return it boot looping so the techs in Kansas can witness it). Which surprisingly enough was stable and let me work thru all the setup screens for the first time ever on this device.

With just my phone setup (no activity, wifi or Express setup work)- I followed the instructions on the linked from sellogramp and unlocked the trailforks map for the first time on any OS above 6.2. Then set the device up on Express (still no wifi) and let it search for updates and new maps. Which it found and updated the 2019.10 map set to 2021.10

Unplug the device, power on and check the maps- an area close to me is rapidly expanding and serves as a good check on whether or not the map set is actually 2021.10 or not (as only about half the trails were there when 2019.10 came out). For me, my device is confirmed to be on the 2021.10 map set. But here's where it gets fun- when I go check to see which maps are loaded and active, it tells me I'm still using the 2019.10 map set. Despite seeing trails that did not exist in 2019 and Express telling me I'm on 2021.10 ( can live with this defect as it does not effect the form, fit or function of the unit).

If it says that you're still on 2019.10 -, try searching for "Bradford, RI" and panning a little south on the device. They'll be a trail system called "Woody Hill" just off RT 91 and 216, zoom in and look for a trail called "Little Sister". Its a 4 mile long double black diamond trail (the only red in the system besides the "extra credit" loop that connects on both ends to it) that did not exist on the 2019.10 maps but does on the 2021.10 maps. If you can see it, you're on the 2021.10 map set no matter what the device says.

Outside of my device claiming the wrong map set (while having the correct one), this unit has been stable on 8.1 with no reboots or changes in setting (been a side issue getting that to stick) all afternoon. Right now, I can use it in the woods and on the pavement as it has the maps I need. I also have my older 8K and 24K Garmin maps on it without issue.Wifi, live connect, Express and Connect are all working without issue.
