Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Edge 830 device to your computer using the micro-USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Edge830_723Beta.zip folder.
  3. Copy the GUPDATE.GCD file from the Edge830_*** distribution folder to the \Garmin folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  4. If there is a GPS_*** folder, place the 006B310706.GCD file into the \Garmin\RemoteSW folder of the device. Please note, not all Beta releases will include an update.
  5. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the Edge, and wait for the update to finish.
  6. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE_710.GCD file in the \Garmin folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device.
NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • I rode with this update today and it went much smoother than on beta 7.19. The routing issues I was experiencing appear to be fixed and the unit seemed more responsive on a whole. There were still a few sensor dropouts, but there were fewer than on beta 7.19.

  • There is a GUPDATE_710.GCD file in the Zip. Ignore?

  • Yes.

That is for reverting to official / supported build.

  • Yes you can ignore that file. You need it only when you want to go back to firmware 7.10 after updating to 7.29.

But when you go back to a older firmware everything is lost so you have to configure your edge new, all your data fields and so on.

  • For some reasons neither Strava segments or climb pro pops up during the ride.

Both Segments and Climb pro are turned on in the activity profile under “data screens”

Climb pro “during active climbs” and “pop-up climb approach” active.

Segment “when segment active” and “show screen” and “pop up segment approach” active.

In Strava live segments “auto select effort” is turned on and all segments are enabled.

    Any ideas?

  • Had some weird things about navigating to a destination today:

Sometimes wrong turn directions were displayed to me on the top [text] (e.g. "arrow left in 200m" was displayed) while the turn arrow on the calculated route on the map correctly pointed to the right (cycle map Europe 2021.10). When I deviated from the calculated route, 830er recalculated and showed me the new route. I was surprised because the direction arrows / chevrons were shown for both directions on the map. After 1 km I saw why: I should go back! No “please turn” or similar was previously displayed. Then I just drove on (knew my route) and after a while it was recalculated. With the recalculation, it always takes a little time until that started (was much faster on the Fenix 6xPS, that was used, too).

  • I categorize my question under stupid; I should have figured that out myself.Grin

  • I installed beta yesterday and went on a planned route.

Despite beta 7.19 with the new beta sometimes no TBT info was shown. Instead I got the course left warning.
This happend approx. 5-7 time of about at least 100 TBTs in total.
