Garmin 830 Crashing

Good day

Running into an issue consistently with my 830.  Any ideas appreciated.

The symptoms:  unit alerts to dropping the radar and drops all connections (Bluetooth and ANT) to phone and radar, PM and HR as well as GPS. Then unit screen locks/freezes and is unresponsive. It does a solid light beep tone while in this state. A soft reset clears it (hold power for 30s) and the unit reboots and connects.  Usually fine for the rest of the ride.

I have tried removing all activities

I was on 7.2 and this was happening.

I backed up settings and activity profiles and in stalled  6.26 just to see if FW related. Happened again today.

There is an event log that corresponds to it but its gibberish to me

Any leads would be great.

  • I would try to troubleshoot it step by step:

    - First update to the latest stable version which now is 7.10

    - Reset to factory defaults

    - Do a couple of rides with default settings and without any sensors connected to see if issue occurs

    - Add sensors

    - Start changing settings gradually on every ride until issue starts manifesting again

    - Also I would try to do some rides without the phone connected

    Hope this helps.

  • If you've had to do a soft reset the storage is likely corrupted. If you have a PC run chkdsk /f across it.
