Navigation

Hi out there.

Sorry if this question has been raised before. I have recently upgraded from my good old 810 to a 830 :-). In my bike Club we every year get a set of courses for the coming year. Here comes the question. On the 810 i can start a route and no matter which screen i'm on, map or data field, i tells me to turn the right place.  On my brand new 830 it works just as fine a long as i stay on the Map screen. If I change to a data field screen i seems like the 830 tries to take a shortcut if possible!! Hopefully I had explained the issue so you can understand it. Has anybody seen something like this? I believe that its a checkmark i am missing. Hopefully it's just something i have mised.

Thanks for you time.

  • I've had similar navigation shortcuts with the 830 myself. But not with the map screen needing to be on.

The way I found to stop it trying to take shortcuts along a route, was during the creation of the route on the Garmin Connect website.

Make sure you add a "pin" before or after each road junction you want to use on the course. That should force the navigation to follow the correct course, and not take "deviations" it thinks you want.

I think it's also possible within the Nav settings to untick auto recalculation (when off course), this might also force it to stick to your course.
