Edge 830 system clock fetching wrong time zone

Hello,

I have purchased a Garmin Edge 830 bike computer, have synced it successfully with a Samsung Galaxy S9+ Android phone and connected it to the WiFi. The problem is that the system clock on the Garmin Edge 830 is wrong - the local time is 21:13 and the Garmin shows 2:13 local time. I tried to manually change the timezone but it doesn't seem to be possible. Goolging suggests that the Edge 830 picks up the timezon from the phone. If it does pick up the timezone from the phone, the Garmin definitely picks up a wrong time zone as the clock on my phone is correctly set. Can you please help me set the time zone correctly on the device ?

Thank you.
George

  • What time zone are you in? It sounds like the time zone map file that tells the Edge how to adjust UTC to local time is missing or corrupt.

You can try force a download of it by deleting the Garmin\gamptz.img from the unit and then sync using Garmin Express. This should force a new copy of the time zone map to be installed.

  • Have you tried getting a GPS lock on the unit so it knows where it is?  Do that and see if the time updates.

Thanks guys. It turned out the device simply needed to go outside in order for the clock to be adjusted.

  • Hey - I live in Eastern Time zone and my edge has been displaying central time zone for 6 months. Countless resets, reboots, full factory resets etc and no change.

  • Try replacing the time zone map on the unit with this one.

It goes in the Garmin folder on the Edge.

Make sure it is called gmaptz.img

  • I found toggling the Activity Profile -> [Profile[ -> GPS Mode from GPS to GPS + GLONAS corrected the time.   After the time was correct I revered to GPS only mode as this seems to extend battery life.

  • I have a Edge 1030 Plus. It was using Mountain Time since returning from a race in Arizona.

It's Fall in the states, so I have been training inside. As such I have not used GPS.

To get back to Central Time, I did the following:

    1. Navigate to home screen.
    2. Swipe down to get menu.
    3. Select GPS > GPS Mode.
    4. Selected a GPS Mode (information on satellite systems here).

Clock changed to CT in a few seconds.

  • This worked. Thank youBicyclist♂️Bicyclist♂️Bicyclist♂️
