Cycliq Fly 12 interference

I recently got a new Cycliq Fly 12 light / camera. I’ve found that when I have the Fly 12 mounted underneath my Edge 830 via a combined out front / go pro mount, my Edge loses GPS signal. It’s definitely a problem with the Fly 12 because the same thing happens with my iPhone GPS signal when it’s above the Fly 12.

I’ve opened a support ticket with Cycliq, but they seem slow to respond.

has anyone else experienced the same problem? Any ideas how to solve it?

  • Fyi I have the same setup using a K-edge mount with Edge 830 and Fly12CE. No GPS issues but I don't ride off road or in dense forests. There were threads about this somewhere long ago and I can't remember if they were before or after the Fly12CE was released.

  • I get significant GPS interference from the Fly12 I have when it is mounted below the Edge. I have provided information to Cycliq, but they did not seem interested in investigate it. Maybe I just have a unit with poor shielding.

I now no longer use the unit unless I can mount it well away from the Edge.

Maybe it depends on when the unit was manufactured?

  • to be clear, are you guys having issues with Fly12 or Fly12 CE?

  • Sorry I should have stated CE.

  • I've just got the Fly12CE and having the same problem.  I only use it on the Rd bike.  When I turn it off the problem is solved.  When I turn it on again the same problem.  I'm using the Edge820.  This is really annoying.

  • I am having the same problem with an Edge520 and Fly12CE.  The Garmin doesn't record from the beginning of the ride but some K  so after the start.  Most annoying!! Using the out front up and under mount with twist on mounts for both devices.  Would a taller mount for the Fly12CE help??

  • I noticed the same problem since I installed a new outfront mount yesterday with the FLY12 mounted beneath the Garmin. GPS keeps pausing on the head unit.

    Most annoying.

  • Same issue with the Fly12 here as well. I lose Strava segments on group rides with people using both Wahoo and Garmin computers - i.e. where they will have the recorded segment and I will not. When checking Strava on the computer later, I can see where the GPS droupouts happen and I lose the segment part of the way in. I have tried wrapping the Fly12 in foil and electrical tape, but this didn't change anything. I am using the aluminum Cycliq dual mount (GPS on top, Fly12 on bottom). I think I am done with Cycliq cameras altogether now. My Fly6 (2nd gen) just quit recognizing all SD cards last week. These things are just now turning 2 years old, and at a combo cost of around $500 USD, I would have expected them to last a little longer. It was never dropped, always cared for meticulously. Between the Fly12 GPS issue (which I have chased for 2 years) and the Fly6 essentially bricking, I can't justify continued use of this stuff. Cycliq customer service did offer me 20% off the purchase of a new unit, in their defense, but in my opinion that just isn't enough. If I want camera, I'll probably figure out some sort of GoPro setup going forward.

  • I managed to find advice on Cycliqs website that the device needs to be at least 5 cm away from the GPS unit.  Moved mine further apart and it appears to have largely solved the problem.  Not sure why they promote duel mounts if its a known problem

  • As well as missing segments I sometimes experience that my ride is changed to an indoor ride, the first time it happened I thought It was me but then it happened twice.  I can't help but think that there more than interference but that the camera is modifying setting on my Garmin as well.  I am using a edge 530 though. I wish I had seen these posts sooner, significant buyers regret.  What other setups are people using in place of the Cycliq?
