HRM not registering on edge 830

HRM not registering on edge 830, then when it does is freezes on a bpm.
Unable to clear bpm off the 830 even after rebooting, on/ off, charging, swapping bikes. HRM 2 removed, refitted, soaked, taken away from computer to loose connection etc. Real frustrating as ride effort not recorded on garmin or strava arghhhhhhhhhh

  • Same happend to me last 3 rides. Changed battery, nothing. It gets stuck on 72 or 38 bpm or it doesnt show at all.

  • Bluetooth or ANT+ connection?  How old is the HRM?  Does the sensor pod work with a different strap?  I have had a sensor pod die.  They can do that.

  • Hi, I have only had the HRM for 5 months and is showing as having full battery power. Amongst the various checks/test I have tried is removing and refitting the pod, I have also tried removing the pod whilst connected to the computer and moving it out of range and reconnecting but it was still locked. I have not got another strap to try so I’m guessing I’ll have to buy a new one to confirm it’s the HRM and not an issue with the computer. I’ll let you know if I’ve waisted my money or not, understanding it’s still under guarantee doesn’t help! Cheers

  • If it is that new I would taking it back to where I bought it from stating it is faulty and getting a replacement.

  • Hi, As I got it online through wiggle and given the distance and lock down that’s not real feasible. I have ordered a new one to prove it’s either the HRM or a problem with the Computer. If it is definitely the HRM I can send the original back for a credit note. I’ll post my results in case others are having the same erratic and totally frustrating issue. As I’m a transplant patient it’s quite important I don’t over train so the system is important, as you will no doubt know it’s too easy to get carried away and keep in zones 4/5 when out on the road. Cheers

  • I will assume you are in the UK as you bought it from Wiggle.  As it is less than six months old it is automatically assumed to be faulty from purchase.  All you need to do is get the return request into Wiggle and then post it back to them for a refund/replacement.  If you can't get to a Post Office/other suitable posting location surely you know someone who get take it there and drop it off once you have packed it up?

If the HR strap is a ANT+ and Bluetooth one you could try pairing it to a phone via BT (or if your phone is ANT+ as well try that) and seeing if a suitable app temporality installed on your phone sees the HR data.

  • Do you have any other sensors paired to your Edge? If so, we would need to check if any of that data is getting stuck on a number or frozen at any point. If other sensors are pairing and transmitting fine without freezing, it can rule out the Edge as the culprit.

  • Hi Blake, yes I have both a speed and cadence sensor fitted to both bikes which it has froze on. It has only been the HR’s that have frozen. What has confused me is that when I’ve switched off/re-booted/charged &restarted  the edge it has sometimes gone straight back to the frozen bpm. Other times it has cleared and worked normally and then frozen again, clearly the fault is intermittent as much as I can ascertain. Unless it is actually my heart sticking to one rhythm
