FW 7.10 : Recorded track no longer automatically uploaded to connect.garmin.com?

Hi,

Since the update to firmware version 7.10 I notice that when I arrive back home and save the ride, it is no longer automatically uploaded to Connect.

When I go to statistics and manually start the upload it takes a long time and ends with a non-descript error. Even though one time it appaered on Connect anyway

Other option is to cycle the power. After the restart it automatically uploads the recorded track to Connect.

Anybody else experiencing this? Solution?

Until FW 7.10 having the Edge connected to my Wifi and Iphone at the same time never caused issues. But I see an older thread that says wifi and bluetooth interfere.

Thx!

  • Have you tried removing your Bluetooth pairing, or removing the wifi network and then setting up again? Also, trying Garmin Express on a computer may help us determine if there's a specific error coming from the .FIT file for that activity.

  • Hi Blake,

I've deleted the wifi connection on the device and established a new connection. Started recording, ended it and saved the track (while sitting in my living room, ahum) and now each time the 0 kilometer ride is uploaded to connect. Tried this a few times with and without a connection to my iPhone. Every time it worked.

Working assumption #1: Update from FW 7 to 7.10, as it was related to WIFI may left something not okay and the deleting the wifi connection data and reconnecting it corrected the error.

Working assumption #2: The problem is not yet resolved as it is related to moving in and outside the coverage of my wifi signal, something that actually would happen when riding my bicycle, leaving home for some time and returning back home.

We have a COVID-19 related evening curfew so I can't go out to test if it this scenario is working or not. I'll test tomorrow and report back here.

    Thanks,

    Huib

  • Hi Blake,

Its daytime so I could go out and test.

    - I made sure the connect app on my phone was runing

    - Switched on the Edge

    - Got the Notfication on the phone that both are connected.

    - Saw the Wifi connection activity on the Edge happinig (checking, transfering,....)

    - Started recording.

    - walked to a shop in town far outside the coverage of my wifi network.

    - returned 20 minutes later back home

    - The edge status at the top of the screen showed it was connected to wifi again.

    - I stopped the recording and saved it on the device

(by the way, automatic upload is activated)

    - I waited about 5 minutes but nothing happened (until FW 7 it would have been uploaded tot Gamrin Connect by now)

    - took my phone and switched to the connect app, also no update

    - activated the syncing within the connect app

    - after syncing the recorded activity appeared in Gamin Connect and the Connect App.

It feels to me like after the wifi is lost and you return back it's sees the wifi but processes to upload any recorded activity to Garmin Connect do not start.

I did another small test (without switching the Edge off from the test above):

    -  started a activity/recording, ended it after a few seconds and saved it (while sitting still)

    - no upload happened.

    - I switched the Edge to Standby/Sleep

    - I switched the Edge back on

    - and now the upload of the activity I recorded a few seconds before happened.

    I hope this all helps.

    Regards,

    Huib
