map updates

I have had my 830 a year and a half now.  Recently, it update the maps to 2020.20  How long does Garmin provide free map updates for the edge 830?  I was a bit surprised (pleasantly) that I am still getting free updates.

    It looks like Garmin will update these maps "forever" on the 830 and other recent devices.

    As the source of these maps is mostly volunteers made Open Street Map, it would not be that polite to not supply free maps till the end of OSM :)

    Thanks for the info.  I had an 800 before and switched to free OSM when Garmin wanted money for updates.  I was expecting to have to do that again.  I am pleasantly surprised that Garmin is updating my 830.

    With older units (like the 800 and 810), maps were an extra cost feature. What people bought was Garmin's City Navigator (CN) maps.

    Garmin moved to using OSM with the Touring models. One reason was because OSM has cycling features that the CN maps don't and because it made the units effectively cheaper for consumers. (Garmin's competitors were doing the same thing,)
